In response to a <\/em>new report<\/em><\/a> outlining the disastrous impacts of Republicans\u2019 budget, <\/em>DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office report confirms that the GOP\u2019s catastrophic budget is nothing more than a massive redistribution of wealth from the working class to the yacht class. While the ultra-wealthy billionaires rake it in, hardworking Americans will be forced to choose between putting food on the table, a roof over their heads, or paying for lifesaving health care. The American people deserve better than a government that steals from the poor to give to the ultra-rich.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW REPORT: The Congressional Budget Office\u2019s report confirmed that Republicans\u2019 disastrous budget would lower income and resources for Americans in the lowest income brackets to fund tax handouts for the ultra-wealthy \u2014 all while exploding the deficit.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congressional Budget Office<\/a>: \u201cThe [resource] changes would not be evenly distributed among households. The agency estimates that in general, resources would decrease for households in the lowest decile (tenth) of the income distribution, whereas resources would increase for households in the highest decile. \u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAn increase in the federal deficit of $3.8 trillion attributable to<\/strong> tax changes, including extending provisions of the 2017 tax act \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c$698 billion less in<\/strong> federal subsidies from changes to the Medicaid<\/strong> program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c$267 billion less in <\/strong>federal spending for SNAP. \u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCBO estimates that household resources would decrease by an amount equal to about 2 percent of income in the lowest decile (tenth)<\/strong> \u2026 By contrast, resources would increase by an amount equal to 4 percent for households in the highest decile<\/strong> in 2027 and 2 percent in 2033, mainly because of reductions in [the] taxes they owe.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jason Furman, Harvard University<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m not sure I\u2019ve ever seen such a brutal distributional analysis from CBO.<\/strong> This contrasts the Medicaid and SNAP cuts for the lowest decile with the tax cuts for the top decile.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To pay for their tax giveaways for billionaires, House Republicans voted to gut Medicaid and slash food assistance<\/strong> <\/strong>for millions of Americans. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cThe House Energy and Commerce Committee, in a 30-to-24 party-line vote, advanced<\/strong> the health care section of the GOP\u2019s sweeping tax bill that would slash Medicaid spending by hundreds of billions<\/strong> of dollars.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cThe House Agriculture Committee voted 29-25 along party lines to <\/strong>advance legislation that would cut as much as $300 billion in food aid spending to pay for Republicans\u2019 domestic policy megabill.\u201d<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GOP\u2019s plan will strip away health care from nearly 14 million Americans and devastate our children, seniors, and rural communities. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities<\/a>: \u201cCBO\u2019s early estimates show that at least 13.7 million people would lose coverage and become uninsured because of the Medicaid cuts and the ACA marketplace restrictions in this committee legislation, <\/strong>as well as the fact that the budget legislation does not extend expiring marketplace premium tax credit improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

West Virginia Watch<\/a>: \u201cMedicaid cuts could hurt older adults who rely on home care, nursing homes\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgetown University Center for Children and Families<\/a>: \u201cCuts to Medicaid<\/strong> Will Shift Costs to Families, Providers and Will Be Especially Harmful to Rural Communities\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Republicans also passed the largest cuts to food assistance in modern history, ripping away food from 42 million Americans. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cThe GOP proposal would create the largest overhaul in decades to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which helps more than 42 million people in the U.S. pay for food,<\/strong> by forcing states to share the cost of SNAP benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Center for Budget Policies and Priorities<\/a>: \u201cMillions of Low-Income Households Would Lose Food Aid<\/strong> Under Proposed House Republican SNAP Cuts\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRegardless of how Republican lawmakers enact a cut of this magnitude, this would slash more than 20 percent from a program that helps more than 40 million people, including 1 in 5 children, afford groceries.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
