In response to House Republicans passing their devastating budget, <\/em>DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump promised to bring costs down on day one \u2014 prices are soaring. Donald Trump sold himself as a great businessman \u2014 the economy is in a tailspin. Donald Trump said he would put America first \u2014 but he\u2019s only putting billionaires first. And this morning, Donald Trump instructed House Republicans to pass a budget that would rip away health care from nearly 14 million Americans and slash a program that more than 40 million working families rely on to put food on the table just to give permanent tax handouts to the top 1 percent.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLook, here\u2019s the thing: Donald Trump manufactured an unnecessary economic crisis all on his own. He\u2019s created tough times for millions of people already. Now, he\u2019s taking away the very protections that help families get by during those tough times. This is a devastatingly cruel and immoral one-two punch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI know what Medicaid and SNAP mean for families who are already struggling, because I grew up in one of those families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, let\u2019s be clear what Trump is doing: He\u2019s hollowing out the working class to satisfy the hunger of his rich and powerful allies. The GOP budget will decimate local communities, blow an economic hole in rural America, and make us into a nation governed by and for a handful of elites. Democrats will do everything we can to kick those who are responsible for this bill out of office. We have Americans at our side. This vote will cost many, many Republicans their seats in the midterms.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cSenate Republicans released a new budget blueprint Wednesday that would pave the way for \u2026 making President Donald Trump\u2019s 2017 tax cuts permanent.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cThe draft legislation would extend the cuts in the 2017 tax bill, and it adds on some more breaks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSome will benefit the wealthiest, including a permanent increase to the deduction for pass-through income to 22% from 20%, plus a hike for the estate tax exemption<\/strong>, which would shield more inheritances from taxes.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To pay for another round of tax handouts for their billionaire backers, Republicans are sticking low-income families with the bill\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

USA Today<\/a>: \u201cLow-income families would lose, wealthier ones would gain under GOP tax proposals\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLow-income families stand to lose hundreds if not thousands of dollars in income while wealthy ones will gain even more<\/strong>, according to a new analysis of Congressional Republican tax and budget proposals. \u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe report estimated that families with a modified adjusted gross income of less than $10,000 would lose over $2,700<\/strong> (or nearly a 15% reduction in income). Families who make between $10,000 and $20,000 would lose over $800<\/strong>, or about 4.4% reduction in income, while families who make between $20,000 and $30,000 would lose $400<\/strong>, or about 1.5% reduction in income. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn comparison, families with higher incomes would benefit<\/strong> from the extension of the 2017 tax cuts.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026 while gutting Medicaid for millions of Americans and forcing families and children to go hungry by slashing food assistance that helps over <\/strong>40 million<\/strong><\/a> Americans put food on the table. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cRepublicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Wednesday afternoon advanced legislation containing cuts to Medicaid and health care provisions \u2014 some of the most controversial and contentious provisions that will be included in the \u2018big, beautiful bill\u2019 of President Trump\u2019s ambitious legislative agenda.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities<\/a>: \u201cCBO\u2019s early estimates show that at least 13.7 million people would lose coverage and become uninsured because of the Medicaid cuts and the ACA marketplace restrictions in this committee legislation, <\/strong>as well as the fact that the budget legislation does not extend expiring marketplace premium tax credit improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
