Ahead of Donald Trump\u2019s extension of his self-imposed tariff deadline,<\/em> DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe American people were promised 90 deals in 90 days, and instead, Donald Trump has continued to plunge the American economy into chaos by giving himself another extension after he failed to finalize and fully implement a single deal. The only thing Trump has delivered is more pain to American consumers and the largest cuts to health care and food assistance in American history. While Trump drags the American people toward a financial crisis, hardworking families and small businesses are already drowning in sky-high costs and a dramatically slowing job market. The bottom line: Trump is a crooked liar. His only \u2018art of the deal\u2019 is screwing over working families to line his own pockets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Garrett Haake, NBC News<\/a>: \u201cPresident Trump just denied changing the date for tariff deadline to August 1, saying in cabinet meeting that was always the date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c<\/strong>Here\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> the EO he signed yesterday moving the deadline from July 9 to August 1.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

TIME<\/a>: \u201cThe 90-day pause, during which the Trump Administration pledged to negotiate deals with trading partners, was set to expire on Wednesday, July 9, but the White House confirmed on Monday that it would push back the start of hiked tariffs to Aug. 1.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump also began sharing \u2018letters\u2019 to multiple heads of state on Truth Social, alerting them of the tariff rates their countries will face next month if they do not reach deals before then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile Trump\u2019s trade adviser Peter Navarro said in April that the Administration would deliver \u201890 deals in 90 days,\u2019 officials lowered expectations in recent days. \u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[E]xperts had said even many major trading partners may not be able to reach deals so fast, and the agreements that have been reached are more broad frameworks with details to be worked out later than concrete deals.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cFor all his optimistic talk on trade, Trump has made little tangible progress since this spring\u2019s tariff spree, so far only securing frameworks of agreements with the U.K. and China and leaving American businesses grappling with continued economic uncertainty.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNBC<\/a>: \u201c100% of CFOs taking the survey said current policy uncertainty is affecting their ability to make business decisions, with about one-third saying it is having a \u2018significant impact.\u2019<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economists are sounding the alarm that Trump\u2019s disastrous agenda will bring higher inflation, higher unemployment, and slower growth. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reuters<\/a>: \u201cFederal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams expects slower growth and higher inflation this year due in large part to trade tariffs \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWilliams said that as a result he expects growth to slow considerably this year<\/strong> to around 1%, with the unemployment rate rising from its current 4.2% level to 4.5% by year\u2019s end.<\/strong> The official also expects that inflation will rise to 3% as President Donald Trump\u2019s tariffs drive up prices \u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond<\/a>: \u201cRecord Concern about Tariffs Expected to Increase Costs and Prices, Reduce Hiring and Investment\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cForty percent of [CFOs] indicated tariffs and trade policy were a pressing concern for their firm this quarter, a record share of respondents citing the same concern going back to the second quarter of 2020<\/strong> \u2014 a time period that covered the pandemic, severe supply chain disruption, and the highest inflation rate the U.S. has seen since the early 1980s.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cMore than 70% of U.S. small and mid-sized businesses say tariffs have already increased their operating costs \u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
