Last night, following Texas House Republicans holding a sham redistricting hearing and cutting off testimony before Texans who wanted to speak could have their voices heard, Texas Democrats created \u201cThe People\u2019s Hearings\u201d<\/a> to listen to every Texan with something to say about Republicans\u2019 sham maps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, as the Texas House went into recess, Texas Democrats announced they will travel to California and Illinois to meet with Democratic leaders, including Governors JB Pritzker and Gavin Newsom, to discuss strategies that will protect Texas residents from Republicans\u2019 shameful choice to put partisan games over desperately needed disaster relief. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DNC is supporting the Texas Democratic legislators through our Organizing Summer program and distributed volunteer organizing base. Democrats won\u2019t stand idly by while Republicans play partisan games at the expense of Texans who need disaster relief. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

DNC Chair Ken Martin issued the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTexas families desperately need relief from devastating flooding, but Republicans would rather take orders from Donald Trump to rig congressional maps than actually do their jobs. From Texas to California to Illinois, the Democratic Party is united to protect voters from being silenced. This scheme from Republicans is nothing more than a last-ditch effort to save their seats after putting billionaires over working families.
