In response to the news today that <\/em>Medicare drug plan premiums are expected to rise significantly, <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFirst, Donald Trump gutted Medicaid with his billionaire-first budget bill \u2014 now, his administration is planning to slash Medicare benefits, increasing premiums and prescription drug prices for seniors and families. Trump repeatedly promised that he would protect Medicare and Medicaid and \u2018bring prices down, starting on Day One.\u2019 Six months into his presidency, he\u2019s taking away health care from millions of Americans and causing health care and drug prices to soar. Promises made, promises broken.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wall Street Journal<\/a>: \u201cMedicare Part D Drug Plan Premiums Set to Rise\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPremiums for Medicare drug plans are set to increase sharply next year<\/strong>, due to rising costs, regulatory changes and cutbacks to a subsidy program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe subsidy program, which sent extra federal funds to the private insurers that offer the drug benefit\u2014known as Part D\u2014had largely shielded seniors from rising monthly bills in 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt pumped an extra $6.2 billion of federal payments into the Part D plans this year, according to a Medicare official. The Trump administration is set to cut spending on that program by about 40% in 2026.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This comes after Trump and Republicans passed their disastrous, billionaire-first budget to give the ultra-wealthy another round of tax handouts at the expense of working families. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcb8 Working Americans will lose $1,600<\/a> a year, while high-earners will see their incomes boosted by $12,000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udfe5 17 million<\/a> Americans could lose health insurance, a whopping 27% of nursing homes could be forced to close their doors, and more than 300 rural hospitals could close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udf5e More than 22 million<\/a> working families could lose some or all of their food benefits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udfe0 Experts<\/a> say it is \u201cthe most regressive tax and budget law in at least the past 40 years\u2014and possibly ever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

REMINDER: Trump repeatedly promised not to touch Medicaid and Medicare. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump<\/a>: \u201cWe will take care of Medicare, Medicaid,<\/strong> Social Security. We will take care of everything.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cSocial Security, we\u2019re going to take care of it beautifully; Medicare; and Medicaid. And we are going to save it \u2026 now we\u2019ll be in charge, so we\u2019re going to have no problem with Medicaid or Medicare<\/strong> or Social Security.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cNo, no, we\u2019re not going to be playing with Medicaid<\/strong>, only waste, fraud and abuse. Yeah, the Democrats have it wrong. Yeah, waste, fraud and abuse. In fact, if you look at what’s gone on, we’ve gone way back. We take care of Medicaid and take care of Medicare.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
