As families and teachers across the country get ready for a new school year<\/a>, they\u2019re being hit with sky-high inflation<\/a> on everything from notebooks to backpacks to classroom supplies \u2014 the latest consequence of Donald Trump\u2019s disastrous economic agenda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, <\/em>DNC Deputy Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement<\/em><\/strong>:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBack-to-school shopping is another reminder for families that Donald Trump\u2019s economy is a total trainwreck. Trump\u2019s reckless trade war is driving prices even higher, making it harder for parents to prepare their kids for school and teachers to stock their classrooms. Instead of focusing on bringing down costs, Trump is trying to gaslight the American people into believing he\u2019s already \u2018taken care of\u2019 inflation and that \u2018prices are way down\u2019. But families feel the truth every time they check out at the register \u2014 his economy is unaffordable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under Trump\u2019s disastrous economic agenda, inflation is rising<\/a>, job losses are skyrocketing<\/a>, and his reckless trade war<\/a> is driving prices for essential items even higher<\/a>. As Trump\u2019s erratic trade war accelerates core inflation to the \u201cfastest annual pace in five months<\/a>,\u201d 62%<\/a> of Americans expect to pay more for school supplies than they did last year, and 85%<\/a> say they were concerned about rising prices thanks to Trump\u2019s trade war. In fact, one in five back-to-school shoppers says buying supplies is straining their budget<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents are being forced to spend more for less, while teachers \u2014 who already spend hundreds out of their own pockets on classroom materials each year \u2014 are digging even deeper to make sure their students have what they need. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
