The longer Republicans delay this crucial funding, the more our communities will feel the pain. How can we expect workers to afford to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads, or students to show up to school, if there is no reliable transportation they can depend on? This isn\u2019t about fiscal responsibility \u2014 we have the money \u2014 this is pure politics and millions of Pennsylvanians will pay the price. Here\u2019s the message for Pennsylvania Republicans from the 800,000 Pennsylvanians who rely on SEPTA: Either fund transit for Pennsylvanians, or prepare to lose your seat. Transportation shouldn\u2019t be a political game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>After a bill that would increase funding for Pennsylvania\u2019s transit agencies passed the Pennsylvania House, Senate Republicans are trying to kill the bill \u2014 potentially forcing service cuts across the state.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/penncapital-star.com\/briefs\/another-day-another-transit-bill-passes-amid-pa-budget-impasse\/\">Pennsylvania Capital-Star<\/a>: \u201cOn Monday, the state House voted on a bill that would increase funding for transit agencies across the commonwealth. The bill will go to the Republican-controlled Senate, which is set to return to Capitol in Harrisburg tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHouse Democrats say it was a necessary move to shore up funding as the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) warns of impending service cuts if they don\u2019t receive more state support. But, Republicans in the chamber accused the other side of the aisle of political gamesmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRepublican Minority Leader Jesse Topper (R-Bedford), however, said the House\u2019s move was nothing but a political show. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cTopper said that the Republican-controlled Senate is unlikely to act on transit funding <\/strong>as a standalone issue, instead viewing it as part of broader budget negotiations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/pennsylvania-c-votes-philadelphia-septa-bill\/\">CBS News<\/a>: \u201cIn the Republican-controlled state Senate, <strong>where the majority has resisted increasing aid for transit, <\/strong>the bill faces an uncertain future.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If Republicans continue to delay this bill, SEPTA \u2014 one of Philadelphia\u2019s largest transit systems \u2014 will be forced to severely scale back services, leaving families and students scrambling to get to where they need to go.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/penncapital-star.com\/briefs\/another-day-another-transit-bill-passes-amid-pa-budget-impasse\/\">Pennsylvania Capital-Star<\/a>: <strong>\u201cRoughly 1 million Pennsylvanians \u2014 about one in 13 people in the state \u2014 use mass transit every day in all 67 counties. About 800,000 of those use SEPTA. <\/strong>But transit authorities outside of the Philadelphia area have also warned they face service cuts if no additional funding is provided by the legislature.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/septa-funding-cuts-fare-increase-pennsylvania-budget\/\">CBS News<\/a>: \u201c<strong>SEPTA previously said the proposed cuts will:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Eliminate 32 bus routes<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shorten 16 bus routes<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reduce service on the 88 bus, Regional Rail and subway lines<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cut five Regional Rail lines and the Broad-Ridge Spur subway<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reduce all remaining services by 20%<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Add a 9 p.m. curfew on metro and Regional Rail service<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cancel special service such as sports express trains<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Raise fares by 21.5% starting Sept. 1\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.phillyvoice.com\/septa-cuts-philadelphia-students-school-commute\/\">Philly Voice<\/a>: \u201cMajor transit cuts are poised to derail Philadelphia\u2019s start of the school year as state lawmakers squabble over funding for SEPTA, w<strong>hich more than 21,000 Philadelphia students use to get to school. <\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cNo part of the city will be immune, <\/strong>according to SEPTA officials, with <strong>longer wait times and more crowding expected throughout the transit system <\/strong>that provides key transportation services for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThough the district provides school buses to elementary school students and some students with disabilities, <strong>most students in grades six and up are expected to walk or use public transportation to get to school.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pennsylvaniaindependent.com\/infrastructure\/as-school-nears-public-transit-cuts-loom-over-students-and-families-who-rely-on-septa\/\">Pennsylvania Independent<\/a>: \u201cFor Autumn Fingerhood, a single mother who works three jobs, public transportation is the reason her 15-year-old daughter can get to school and back every day. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018She will have no bus. How do you expect her to participate in after-school activities while there is no bus service? I\u2019m a single mom who works hard every single day to support my children. Three jobs I work. I do not have others to rely on.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018Who is going to drop my daughter off and pick her up? Am I supposed to quit my jobs?\u2019 Fingerhood continued.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rollingout.com\/2025\/08\/12\/4-philly-teams-face-crisis-transit-cut\/\">Rolling Out<\/a>: \u201c4 Philly teams face crisis as transit cuts threaten fans\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThe most immediate concern centers on SEPTA\u2019s plan to eliminate Broad Street Line service after 9 p.m., a move that would particularly impact evening games across all sports. <\/strong>The Broad Street Line serves as a crucial transportation artery connecting fans to South Philadelphia\u2018s sports complex, where three of the city\u2019s four major teams play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor Philadelphia Eagles fans heading to Lincoln Financial Field,<strong> the timing couldn\u2019t be worse. NFL games frequently extend past 9 p.m.,<\/strong> especially primetime matchups and games that go into overtime.
