Governor Newsom\u2019s emergency response to Trump attempting to weasel his way into a House majority has the full support of the DNC<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, California Governor Gavin Newsom introduced the Election Rigging Response Act in response to Trump\u2019s rigging of the Texas congressional maps. Newsom\u2019s bold leadership is giving Californians the power to fight back, stand up to Trump, protect our democracy, and fight for our values. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Trump and Republicans\u2019 passing of devastating legislation that will kick millions of Americans off of health care and food assistance, they concocted a scheme to avoid accountability by rigging congressional maps in states with Republican majorities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With California\u2019s ballot measure and the brave, ongoing work of Texas House Democrats, California Democrats are striking back against Donald Trump by giving California voters the chance to even the playing field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to Governor Newsom and California Democrats introducing the Election Rigging Response Act, DNC Chair Ken Martin issued the following statement:<\/em><\/strong>
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor months, we promised that if Republicans wanted a showdown, they would get a showdown. Well, today, Gavin Newsom and California Democrats sent a booming message to the entire country: we are done fighting with one arm tied behind our back. The Election Rigging Response Act is a game-changer that will ensure Donald Trump and the Republican Party \u2014 knowing they\u2019re in political freefall \u2014 can\u2019t rig their way through the midterms. It will level the playing field and help make sure voters decide who runs the House of Representatives \u2014 not Donald Trump. Facing voters squarely on your record is a hallmark of our democracy, but Republicans are hellbent on avoiding accountability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe onus is now on Donald Trump and the rest of the Republican Party to stop their attempts to change the rules in the middle of the game. The Democratic Party will never stop fighting for free and fair elections, and we thank Governor Newsom and the California Democrats for leveling the playing field.
