This will leave residents with no other option but to travel long distances or go without the care they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In many states, closures are already underway because of Republicans\u2019 passing the devastating Trump budget bill.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Democratic National Committee spoke to some of the people affected by Trump\u2019s actions. The latest video features powerful testimony from Bridgeport, Nebraska, nursing home resident Lisa Reagan, nurse Niki Hill, and nurse-attorney Sarah Lash on the impact Trump\u2019s budget will have on nursing homes, their residents, and their employees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rLEzXJR6pjs\"><strong>WATCH<\/strong><\/a><strong>: Nursing homes across the country are at risk of closing because of Trump\u2019s devastating cuts to Medicaid in his billionaire-first budget.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" src=\"https:\/\/democrats.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image_1b0a62.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1055779\" srcset=\"https:\/\/democrats.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image_1b0a62.png 450w, https:\/\/democrats.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image_1b0a62.png?resize=300,169 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rLEzXJR6pjs\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nurse-attorney Sarah Lash:<\/strong> \u201c<em>Lots of rural nursing homes and assisted living facilities already are on a razor\u2019s edge, and this bill pushes them over. These cuts in Medicaid will absolutely just destroy these rural homes, because they won\u2019t have income to pay for staff or the building. \u2026 It makes me really sad that, when you\u2019re old and when you need help, that you are going to be insecure about where you get it, and I think that\u2019s heartbreaking. I think that when we don\u2019t take care of our most vulnerable populations, and certainly the elderly are, then we are not doing well as a society or country.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><br><br><strong>Bridgeport, Nebraska nursing home resident Lisa Reagan:<\/strong><em> \u201cSo if they were to do something with this place and put me someplace else, I couldn\u2019t take it. &#8230; I want to stay here. I came here because of that lady right over there. I love her and her kids. They come and see me. I\u2019m not going anywhere.
