Donald Trump spent months on the campaign trail declaring himself \u201cthe candidate of peace\u201d who would get rid of \u201cwarmongerers.\u201d Then he got into office and branded himself the \u201cpresident of peace.\u201d But today he made clear<\/a> that he never meant a word of it. Trump\u2019s \u201cDepartment of War\u201d proves once again that his promises are nothing but empty words and he\u2019s more than happy to waste taxpayer dollars<\/a> on vanity projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite all his boasting, Trump doesn\u2019t actually have the legal authority<\/a> to change the name without Congress, so the Department of War name won\u2019t be official but will be a \u201csecondary title\u201d \u2013 whatever that means. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, <\/em><\/strong>DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump looked voters in the eye and promised to be a peacemaker only to turn around and name his own  \u2018Department of War.\u2019 Like the con man he is, he duped his supporters into believing he would be an anti-war, pro-peace president, but once he got into office he abandoned those promises completely. Today\u2019s announcement feels like a middle finger to his own voters and all the brave service members who are now being treated as the president\u2019s personal vanity project.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump repeatedly claimed he was the \u201ccandidate of peace\u201d who would \u201crestore peace in the world.\u201d He vowed that when he got into office he would \u201cexpel the warmongers, the profiteers,\u201d and even declared in his inaugural address that he would be a \u201cpeacemaker.\u201d And of course, he\u2019s taken to Truth Social<\/a> to declare himself the \u201cpresident of peace.\u201d But simultaneously he has bragged about being a \u201cwar hero\u201d<\/a> for approving airstrikes on Iran and is now needlessly renaming the Pentagon the \u201cDepartment of War.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cDepartment of War\u201d might be fitting for Trump, considering that wars around the world continue to rage<\/a> with no end in sight, despite his promises that he would end the war in Ukraine<\/a> on \u201cday one\u201d and quickly end the crisis in Gaza. Even though Trump spends most days begging<\/a> for the Nobel Peace Prize and complaining<\/a> that he hasn\u2019t gotten it yet, it’s pretty clear that Trump is anything but a pro-peace president. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
