Over the weekend, news broke<\/a> that last year, Tom Homan, now the White House border czar, was recorded accepting a $50,000 cash bribe in an undercover FBI operation. After the Trump administration\u2019s decision to close a criminal inquiry into Homan, House and Senate Democrats have opened<\/a> separate investigations as part of a robust oversight inquiry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

DNC Chair Ken Martin:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOver the weekend, news broke that Trump\u2019s border czar, Tom Homan, had been under FBI investigation for potential bribery.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s being reported that in an undercover operation last year, the FBI recorded Homan accepting $50,000 in cash after indicating he could help undercover agents \u2014 who were posing as business executives \u2014 win government contracts in a second Trump administration.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut after Trump took office, his Justice Department \u2014 of course \u2014 shut down the investigation. Surprise, surprise.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA few hours after this broke, Trump posted on Truth Social. His post looks like it was meant to be a private text message to his Attorney General Pam Bondi. And in it, he asked her to hurry up and start prosecuting his political foes. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFolks, this is the 2025 equivalent of *tweeting out* the Watergate scandal instead of recording it on secret tapes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow under normal circumstances, these bombshells would have been front page news. Cash in a bag. Prosecuting the President\u2019s enemies on bogus charges. This is political corruption 101. I mean, come on! This guy is acting like a mob boss. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere would be congressional hearings and investigations. Public officials would lose their jobs. And the president would be held accountable. That\u2019s how serious these stories are. But, for Donald Trump, this was just another Saturday.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump is an expert at flooding the zone with chaos to cover up the corruption. If everything is disqualifying, then nothing is. The more we need to keep up with, the more he tries to get us to throw our hands up in despair.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut, folks, we can\u2019t afford to do that.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow, whether you\u2019re a Republican, a Democrat, or an Independent, we cannot allow corruption like this to go unchecked. We deserve better. You deserve better. And we need to remember that we are not powerless.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur job here at the DNC is simple: Elect. More. Democrats. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEver since Trump was sworn in, there have been important elections all across the country for open congressional seats and state legislative seats, mayoral races, and so many more. And, in the 44 key elections so far this year, Democrats have won or overperformed in 43 of them, with the average overperformance being 16%; an all time high. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is wind at our back but right now, we have our sights set on winning governors\u2019 races in Virginia and New Jersey, and state Supreme Court races in Pennsylvania.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThen, from there, the path is very simple: We have to keep that momentum going to flip the House of Representatives and to pick up seats in the Senate in 2026. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow, if we do that, then Democrats can and will be able to put a real check on Donald Trump\u2019s corruption. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow this is your reminder that, when we\u2019re faced with chaos, we cannot afford to freeze and feel powerless. There is too much on the line. There is too much at stake. We have to do everything that we can to win in \u201825, and in 2026, and onward to try to put a stop to this corruption and save our country.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy friend and late mentor Paul Wellstone used to say that \u2018You can remake the world daily.\u201d And today, that is my reminder to you: that if we all do our part, we can team up against the corruption of this administration. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, here is what I need from you: We need your help talking to voters around the country and reminding them that we are not powerless against this administration \u2014 that there is strength in numbers. That when you roll up your sleeves and you actually take action, you can make a difference. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo I need you to visit democrats.org\/takeaction or text VOLUNTEER to 43367. VOLUNTEER to 43367 right now to see all of the ways you can help elect Democrats.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow the math is simple: The more Democrats we elect, the more we can do to stop the worst things coming from this administration \u2014 and yes, the more lives that we can actually improve with real solutions like health care, housing, fixing the economy, and giving folks throughout this country a shot at the American dream.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis won\u2019t be the last time you hear about blatant corruption from President Trump and his administration. We\u2019re only a year in. Imagine that.\u00a0But I am here to remind you that there is always something you can do about it. \u2018You can remake the world daily.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve said this before: nobody, nobody in this country can do everything. But everybody can do something. Do your something \u2014 whether big or small. Get involved today and help the Democratic Party win. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
