Ahead of today\u2019s runoff election, DNC Chair Ken Martin traveled to Georgia over the weekend to rally voters and build excitement behind Democratic state Senate candidate Debra Shigley. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Alpharetta, a suburb north of Atlanta, Chair Martin knocked doors with Debra Shigley, speaking directly to Georgians about the issues that matter the most to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chair Martin\u2019s trip underscores the DNC\u2019s commitment to organizing everywhere and \u201cbuilding long-standing power,\u201d including in the Deep South.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDemocratic National Committee Chair Ken Martic was in Alpharetta and stumped alongside Shigley and others in District 21 on Saturday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018It\u2019s important for us to realize that we make sure we get Democrats elected on all levels,\u2019 Martin told The Atlanta Voice. \u2018That\u2019s where the rubber hits the road.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMartin took part in door-knocking in Alpharetta and met Shigley supporters and local voters. He told The Atlanta Voice that he came away impressed with the level of support and interest. The DNC Chair used the phrase \u2018off the charts\u2019 to describe the energy around the Democratic candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018There was a lot of excitement and energy,\u2019 Martin said. \u2018It seems like people in this district understand what\u2019s at stake.\u2019 \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018We really believe that when you organize everywhere, you can win anywhere,\u2019 Martin said. \u2018We believe we have a shot at winning the election on Tuesday. We have to compete on all levels.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKen Martin, who chairs the Democratic National Committee, called Shigley\u2019s surprising first-place finish in last month\u2019s seven-way race \u2018a huge overperformance for Democrats in a district that has historically been pretty red.\u2019 \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDNC Chairman Ken Martin knocked doors with candidate Debra Shigley on Saturday in Alpharetta, reminding residents in Senate District 21, which covers parts of Fulton and Cherokee counties, to vote Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018This is a big election, and we\u2019ve got to get out to the polls. Election Day is Tuesday,\u2019 he said to one Alpharetta resident. \u2018Do you plan on voting?\u2019 \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Martin said Saturday\u2019s visit is part of a broader effort from the DNC to more deeply invest in local contests instead of only focusing on federal power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018For many years now, (the DNC has) ignored state legislative seats. We\u2019ve ignored county seats, municipal seats, school boards. And we can\u2019t do that any longer,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDemocrats, he said, must be supported up and down the ballot. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018If we just keep not showing up and not investing in these areas, then they\u2019re going to continue to stay ruby red,\u2019 he said. \u2018But when you start to show up, you start to invest time, energy and money, over time, you start to move the needle, and over time, you start to win. That\u2019s the idea here.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDemocratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin went door to door for Shigley on Saturday. Also hitting the campaign trail to support Shigley was former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, a former Republican who is running as a Democrat in the 2026 governor\u2019s race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Doesn\u2019t matter if the district is ruby red or navy blue, the DNC is hyper-focused on mobilizing voters in every corner of the state and building long-standing power within Georgia,\u2019 the party said in a statement on its website.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
