As the September recess comes to a close, it was once again a terrible September for congressional Republicans. Instead of working around the clock to prevent a government shutdown and protect the health care of millions of Americans, House Republicans left town. Now, House Democrats are back in Washington to lower health care costs for millions of Americans, while House Republicans stay at home, ready to watch our government shut down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While most House Republicans remain too scared to meet with voters directly, the few who did were met by angry voters who are furious that they voted to rip away the health care of millions of Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Democrats continue to overperform or win elections, Republicans are running scared. They\u2019re in for a rude awakening in 2025 and 2026 when voters make their anger known at the ballot box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, <\/em>DNC Spokesperson Albert Fujii released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInstead of working to prevent a government shutdown, Republicans decided to skip town. No matter how hard they tried to hide, they were met with anger at every turn as voters slammed them for voting for Trump\u2019s Big Ugly Bill, which kicks millions of Americans off their health insurance while giving out huge tax breaks to the 1%. While Republicans are scared and hiding, Democrats are on offense, organizing everywhere to make sure Republicans are held accountable for the health care crisis they created.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most Republicans continued to avoid in-person town halls after voting to rip away millions of Americans\u2019 health care.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WDSU<\/a>: \u201c\u2018Sen Kennedy, Cassidy, Mike Johnson and Scalise have not held a town hall while they have been in recess from Congress,\u2019 said Lauren Jewett, a member of Metairie Indivisible. \u2018We wanted to have an event where people’s feelings could be expressed since they feel they are not being heard by their representatives.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charlotte Daily Progress<\/a>: \u201cWith little notice, U.S. Rep. John McGuire hosted his third telephone town hall this past Tuesday \u2014 despite repeated requests from both sides of the aisle for an in-person meeting with the Republican who has represented Virginia\u2019s 5th District since January\u2026 McGuire even told one person on the call he had been to Charlottesville \u2014 a city that once held a mock town hall with a cardboard cutout of the Congressman because he would not attend \u2014 \u2018a million times.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Republicans did speak to voters, they were met with anger \u2014 especially over Medicaid cuts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cCalifornia community fears losing health insurance amid Trump Medicaid cuts\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grand Junction Sentinel<\/a>: \u201cCathy from Clifton expressed concern that health care premiums for middle-class families will increase next year and also stated her worry about Medicaid cuts. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPatrick from Mesa County, who just turned 64 and called himself \u2018just a middle-class guy\u2019, said he\u2019s worried about the impact of H.R. 1 \u2014 or the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) \u2014 on rural health care, since he\u2019s about to apply for Medicare, which \u2018seems to be more expensive than the Obamacare I\u2019m on now.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cJamie Collins is one of Speaker Johnson\u2019s constituents who worries he won\u2019t be able to meet the work requirements set to start in 2027. He recalls painting Johnson\u2019s house in 2021. \u2026 \u2018I mean, he liked the job,\u2019 Collins said. \u2018But, I mean, how can you like a job with a person that\u2019s performing work on your house, cutting Medicaid, that\u2019s putting him in a bind?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fox 56<\/a>: \u201cProtesters gather outside Rep. Bresnahan’s Scranton office\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey say they are unhappy with how both Rep. Bresnahan and Senator McCormick voted on a recent tax bill, and their lack of transparency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Regardless of how many people are here each and every time that we come out, there are still thousands and thousands of people who are concerned that their livelihood is going to go away next year, they\u2019re not going to have enough money to pay their bills or the impact of their money, and they won\u2019t have as much purchasing power,\u2019 said Michelle Rothenbecker, Chief of Staff for Action Together NEPA.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
