At midnight tonight, Donald Trump and Republicans will be solely responsible for the government shutdown because they are hellbent on making health care more expensive for working families. Trump would rather raise health care costs for more than 22 million Americans<\/a> and keep disastrous Medicaid cuts as part of his billionaire-first budget than work with Democrats on a common-sense proposal that safeguards health care for working families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Democrats are committed to extending vital Affordable Care Act subsidies and fixing Republicans\u2019 health care crisis because they know the disastrous consequences that Trump\u2019s policies are having on millions of Americans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday\u2019s meeting at the White House simply underscored how little Trump and Republicans care about reversing the damage that they\u2019ve done to Americans\u2019 health care. Vance even referred<\/a> to ACA subsidies and Medicaid cuts as merely a \u201cparticular tax provision\u201d \u2014 a gut punch to the millions of working families, rural hospitals, and Americans who rely on these critical programs to get their medical care and who will bear the brunt of Trump\u2019s shutdown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump and Republicans are already responsible for skyrocketing costs and the biggest cuts to health care in history \u2014 and now, they are doubling down by placing working families\u2019 health care and rural hospitals on the chopping block. Democrats have been at the negotiating table with a common sense proposal to lower health care costs for the American people, but Trump can\u2019t seem to remember the art of the deal. He would rather pacify his billionaire donors and throw the economy into deeper dysfunction than deliver real results for American families. One thing is clear: Tonight\u2019s impending government shutdown falls squarely on Trump\u2019s shoulders.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Republicans passed the largest cuts to Medicaid in history, rural hospitals around the country have been closing<\/a> because Donald Trump cares more about lining the pockets of his billionaire buddies than helping working families. Over 300 rural hospitals are at risk<\/a> of closing or vastly limiting their services as a result of Trump\u2019s cruel attacks on Americans\u2019 health care \u2014 and once again, Trump and his Republican cronies are hellbent on further raising the costs of health care and ignoring the rural hospitals that are already struggling as a result of their policies.\u00a0

Trump oversaw<\/a> the longest government shutdown in history in 2018, and it\u2019s clear that he is more than willing to throw working families under the bus once again if it means protecting himself and his billionaire friends.
