Because of Donald Trump\u2019s government shutdown, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will not<\/a> release its monthly jobs report today \u2014 sparing Trump from another round of bad headlines confirming what Americans already know: Trump\u2019s economy is a disaster and his labor market is faltering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just yesterday, Trump said<\/a> that Americans will \u201chave the job that they wanted\u201d \u2014 but his job market tells a different story. The Challenger report<\/a> released yesterday revealed that companies have announced nearly 1 million job cuts so far in 2025 \u2014 the highest year-to-date total since 2020, an already 25% increase over 2024\u2019s full-year total, and the fifth-highest year-to-date total in 36 years of reporting. The report notes that job cuts this high have historically occurred during recessions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Challenger report comes just days after ADP<\/a> revealed private companies shed 33,000 jobs in September, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics confirmed<\/a> there are now fewer job openings than unemployed workers. And just yesterday, the Chicago Fed estimated<\/a> a 4.3% unemployment rate in September, indicating another month of poor job growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite promising a \u201cmanufacturing renaissance,\u201d Trump\u2019s trade war has slashed manufacturing jobs<\/a>. His reckless tariffs have eliminated blue-collar jobs and skyrocketed prices, leaving working families on the brink.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To avoid further embarrassment over their terrible economic data, the White House confirmed<\/a> today that the Consumer Price Index, Producer Price Index, and\u00a0Q3 GDP reports may also be delayed if Trump and Republicans decide to continue their shutdown.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, <\/em><\/strong>DNC Deputy Rapid Response Director Jaelin O\u2019Halloran released the following statement<\/em><\/strong>: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump\u2019s economy is in turmoil, and now he\u2019s using his government shutdown as an excuse to dodge another humiliating jobs report. Trump\u2019s unhinged tariffs have wrecked the economy \u2014 driving up prices on everything from groceries to utilities and making it nearly impossible to find a good-paying job. And what is Trump doing? He\u2019s busy reconstructing his gold-plated ballroom to entertain his billionaire buddies while working families struggle to get by. Trump\u2019s job market is in freefall \u2014 and jobs report or no jobs report, he can\u2019t escape blame for the dire financial reality facing working families.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump has taken a wrecking ball to the U.S. economy, and Americans know it. A whopping 72% of Americans<\/a> say that the economy is in poor or fair condition, and nearly half believe that it has worsened during Trump\u2019s term. Young and Black Americans \u2014 groups that Trump gained ground with in the last election \u2014 are being hit hard<\/a> by his catastrophic job market. The unemployment rate for Americans between the ages of 16 and 24 has jumped from 9% to 10.5%<\/a> since Trump took office, and Black unemployment has soared \u2014 and both groups saw their paychecks<\/a> drop<\/a> through<\/a> the first half of the year. Working families are drowning under the weight of high prices and disappearing jobs, thanks to Trump\u2019s failed economic policies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
