Donald Trump is throwing<\/a> a \u201cLegacy Dinner\u201d fundraiser tonight with his billionaire buddies to raise money to \u201cestablish the magnificent White House Ballroom.\u201d Meanwhile, Trump\u2019s government shutdown has already gone on for half a month with no end in sight, and federal workers are starting to miss paychecks<\/a>. Democrats have been in D.C., ready to reopen the government, lower costs, and protect health care \u2014 but Trump is too busy selling out the American people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin issued the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis administration\u2019s slogan should be \u2018Let them eat cake.\u2019 Trump is busy wining and dining with his rich friends and wealthy donors while failing to make a deal to end the government shutdown. Instead of trading cash for access, Trump and his Republican loyalists in Congress should be getting back to work to reopen the government and avoid a health care crisis that would force millions of Americans to pay even more for health care or lose coverage completely. Trump\u2019s betrayal of Americans is brazen: When it comes to bailing out Argentina or building a ballroom, Trump is happy to spend \u2014 but when it comes to helping families and farmers, Trump couldn\u2019t care less.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Trump obsesses over his gold-plated ballroom for his billionaire buddies<\/a>, 22 million Americans are at risk of seeing their health care costs skyrocket by an average of 114%. Not to mention, his billionaire-first budget bill tax cut costs more than 10 times<\/a> as much as it would to extend expanded ACA premium tax credits.
