As Donald Trump\u2019s government shutdown approaches the one-month mark, Trump continues to throw Americans under the bus while giving a helping hand<\/a> to Argentina \u2014 despite his claim that \u201cnothing is benefiting Argentina<\/a>.\u201d Trump suggested<\/a> this weekend that the U.S. could buy more beef from Argentina, which comes just after Trump\u2019s Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced<\/a> that the administration is working on sending a total of $40 billion<\/a> to Argentina. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump has done more in the past month to help Argentina than he has to help the American people, who are struggling to afford everything from rent to groceries. Because of Trump, farmers are on the brink of bankruptcy, and the government has been shut down for almost a month. You would think that the so-called \u2018America First\u2019 president would be focused on reopening the government and saving millions of Americans from skyrocketing health care premiums \u2014 but Trump is showing his true colors. He only cares about helping himself and his friends, even at the expense of the American people. Let\u2019s be clear: MAGA now stands for Make Argentina Great Again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, Trump and his Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent orchestrated a $20 billion bailout<\/a> for Argentina\u2019s economy. Then, reporting<\/a> revealed that Trump and Bessent\u2019s bailout will benefit<\/a> longtime wealthy fund manager Rob Citrone, an ally of Trump and Bessent. And most recently, Bessent announced<\/a> that the administration is working on sending yet another $20 billion to Argentina, bringing the total to $40 billion<\/a> for Argentina\u2019s economy.

Let\u2019s not forget: the $40 billion that Trump is handing over to Argentina is more than it would cost to pay for enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits for two years, as working families brace for skyrocketing health care premiums because Republicans refuse to reopen the government and extend these tax credits. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
