Donald Trump and Republicans have been claiming for more than a decade that they have plans to make health care affordable \u2014 or, as Trump put it, \u201cconcepts of a plan<\/a>.\u201d The reality: Republicans have no plan for health care, and they never have. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

House Speaker Mike Johnson just yesterday claimed<\/a> that Republicans have \u201cpages and pages and pages of ideas on how to reform health care,\u201d<\/strong> but has yet to share any of these alleged ideas. Vice President JD Vance also said<\/a> last week that \u201cwe do have a plan, actually,\u201d<\/strong> but, again, had nothing to show for it.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump and Republicans in Congress are starting to realize that letting health care costs skyrocket for millions of Americans is unpopular, so now they\u2019re pretending \u2014 again \u2014 to have ideas to bring health care costs down. If history tells us anything, those plans don\u2019t exist. The truth is that Trump and Republicans’ true plan is to let ACA tax credits expire to protect their massive tax breaks for the rich. You would think passing the LARGEST health care cut in history would be enough, but now they\u2019re hell bent on making health care even MORE expensive for working families by letting the ACA tax credits expire \u2014 while claiming that their \u2018plan\u2019 is just around the corner.\u201d\u00a0

In reality, Trump is keeping the government shut down because he is dead set on letting health care costs skyrocket for 22 million people. <\/a>That\u2019s why Americans overwhelmingly blame<\/a> Trump and Republicans for the shutdown, and a poll<\/a> found that 8 in 10 Americans want the tax credits to be extended, including most Republicans. But they have yet to produce a plan or even return from their vacation to reopen the government and prevent health care costs from spiking by 114% for millions of Americans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
