New economic data released today show \u2014 once again \u2014 that Donald Trump\u2019s catastrophic economic policies and reckless trade war have sent the economy into a tailspin \u2014 and everyday Americans are paying the price. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New reports show<\/a> that Americans continue to express frustration with Trump\u2019s economy \u2014 and for good reason. According to the Consumer Price Index<\/a> report released today, the year-over-year inflation rate increased to 3.02%, the highest rate since May 2024. And prices are only expected<\/a> to increase even further in the coming months. Thanks to Trump\u2019s disastrous tariffs, working families are struggling to afford some of the highest grocery<\/a> and housing prices ever, and a whopping 4.1% rise in gas prices in September alone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Americans, including Trump\u2019s own supporters, are increasingly worried about his economy. Inflation remains at the forefront of everyday Americans\u2019 minds, and Consumer Sentiment data<\/a> reveals that long-term inflation expectations jumped in October, notably driven by Republicans and Independents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New polls from Quinnipiac<\/a> and CNBC<\/a> this week similarly show that Trump\u2019s approval on the economy has plunged, thanks to soaring inflation, a job market in turmoil, and Trump\u2019s government shutdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs if things couldn\u2019t get worse under Donald Trump\u2019s watch, nearly every new economic indicator shows Trump\u2019s economy is taking a nosedive, and inflation is worsening from his policies. Because of Trump, working families can\u2019t afford groceries, the job market is in freefall, and 22 million Americans are about to see their health care premiums skyrocket \u2014 but Trump\u2019s \u2018main priority<\/a>\u2019 is his $350 million gold ballroom. It\u2019s everyday Americans who are paying the price of Trump\u2019s failing economy \u2014 while the rich get even richer off Trump\u2019s tax cuts for the top 1%.\u201d\u00a0

Just yesterday, Trump claimed that he\u2019d \u201calready taken care of\u201d<\/a> inflation \u2014 a slap in the face to the millions of working families who are struggling to afford their rent and basic necessities like groceries, gas, and prescription drugs. Trump already gutted health care and food assistance to pay for his billionaire tax breaks, and now he\u2019s refusing to extend enhanced ACA tax credits that would prevent health care premiums from skyrocketing. It\u2019s no wonder that, month after month, Americans are losing confidence in Trump\u2019s economy.
