To try and defend their indefensible vote for Trumpcare last week, Republicans have been trotting out their most outrageous, cruelest lies yet. As expected, they don’t hold up to scrutiny:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

NBC News<\/a>: “The GOP’s Health Care Claims Don’t Hold Up”<\/h5>\n

Assertion #1<\/strong>: The House bill will be “more affordable” for those with pre-existing conditions […]<\/p>\n

In fact: Those with pre-existing conditions who don't maintain continuous health insurance could pay more […]<\/p>\n

Assertion #2<\/strong>: No one will be hurt by the House bill's provision to cut more than $800 billion from Medicaid […]<\/p>\n

In fact: Millions of Americans who got health insurance through expanded Medicaid would no longer have that insurance […]<\/p>\n

Assertion #3<\/strong>: “I think everybody will have coverage that is better than what they had under Obamacare” […]<\/p>\n

In fact: Older Americans would have to pay more under the House bill than they do now<\/p>\n

Robert Schlesinger in US News<\/a>: On “the Sunday talk shows and other venues over the weekend…you could see the lies and half-truths the right is trotting out on behalf of Trumpcare.”<\/h5>\n

Price told CNN's Jake Tapper: “The fact of the matter is that Medicaid spending under the proposal and under the budget goes up every single year. And it goes up by a factor that is great – that is equal to the cost of medical care.”Price is – what's the word? – lying.<\/strong> […]<\/p>\n

Republicans falsely claim that Obamacare was rammed through Congress<\/strong>, but at least that bill got a thorough vetting from the CBO before it passed.<\/p>\n

Washington Post Editorial<\/a>: “Republicans serve up dishonest claims to defend their health-care bill”<\/h5>\n

There is the mistruth that undergirds the whole repeal-and-replace crusade: that Obamacare is facing inevitable collapse. Any collapse would be a result of willful Republican negligence<\/strong>.[…]<\/p>\n

Mr. Ryan, meanwhile, argued that the cuts would not hurt anyone…Unsurprisingly, the Congressional Budget Office disagrees with Mr. Price and Mr. Ryan’s prediction of no harm<\/strong>, finding that 14 million fewer people would have Medicaid coverage by 2024, contributing to the massive 24-million-person coverage loss the CBO projected for an earlier version of the bill.<\/p>\n
