href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/trump-administration-plans-to-minimize-civil-rights-efforts-in-agencies\/2017\/05\/29\/922fc1b2-39a7-11e7-a058-ddbb23c75d82_story.html?utm_term=.2d6a4e49ec0e\">Trump administration plans to minimize civil rights efforts in agencies<\/a><\/span>, DNC Chair Tom Perez issued the following statement:<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left:.5in\"><span georgia=\"\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:\">&ldquo;By planning to dissolve the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, the White House is stripping American workers of even more critical protections from discrimination.&nbsp;I&rsquo;ve dedicated my career to building a safe and level playing field for all American workers.&nbsp;And when I was Secretary of Labor, the OFCCP was firing on all cylinders to ensure that anyone doing who did business with the federal government provided equal opportunity.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left:.5in\"><span georgia=\"\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:\">&ldquo;This scheme is just the latest attempt to weaken any efforts to uphold civil rights protections and combat discrimination. Despite the White House&rsquo;s promise that it has an &lsquo;unwavering commitment to the civil rights of all Americans,&rsquo; HUD, EPA, and the Department of Education are all facing drastic cuts to their civil rights protection programs.&nbsp;<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left:.5in\"><span georgia=\"\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:\">&ldquo;Disbanding these programs would not get rid of &lsquo;red tape.&rsquo; It would turn back the clock on decades of civil rights progress. Anyone who believes in equal opportunity for every American should urge the White House to reconsider their disastrous proposals.&rdquo;<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span georgia=\"\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b><span georgia=\"\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:\">Along with the Department of Labor, the Trump Administration has a number of other agencies in its sights for civil rights program cuts:<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraph\" style=\"text-indent:-.25in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1\"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:Symbol\"><span style=\"mso-list:Ignore\">&middot;<span new=\"\" roman=\"\" style=\"font:7.0pt \" times=\"\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/span><!--[endif]--><span georgia=\"\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/trump-administration-plans-to-minimize-civil-rights-efforts-in-agencies\/2017\/05\/29\/922fc1b2-39a7-11e7-a058-ddbb23c75d82_story.html?utm_term=.2d6a4e49ec0e\">Washington Post:<\/a> &nbsp;&ldquo;The new leadership at the <b>Environmental Protection Agency<\/b>, for instance, has proposed<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span georgia=\"\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/energy-environment\/wp\/2017\/03\/31\/new-epa-documents-reveal-even-deeper-proposed-cuts-to-staff-and-programs\/?utm_term=.cac362b363ed\"><span style=\"color:#1955A5\">eliminating its environmental justice program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:#111111\">, which addresses pollution that poses health threats specifically concentrated in minority communities. Administration officials acknowledge in budget documents that the civil rights office will have to scale back the number of <\/span>investigations it conducts and limit travel to school districts to carry out its work.&rdquo;<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraph\" style=\"text-indent:-.25in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1\"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:Symbol\"><span style=\"mso-list:Ignore\">&middot;<span new=\"\" roman=\"\" style=\"font:7.0pt \" times=\"\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/span><!--[endif]--><span georgia=\"\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/trump-administration-plans-to-minimize-civil-rights-efforts-in-agencies\/2017\/05\/29\/922fc1b2-39a7-11e7-a058-ddbb23c75d82_story.html?utm_term=.2d6a4e49ec0e\">Washington Post:<\/a> <\/span><span georgia=\"\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:\">&ldquo;And the administration has reversed several steps taken under President Barack Obama to address LGBT concerns.
