Senate Republicans are trying to rush through a tax bill that would provide huge benefits to corporations and the top 1% at the expense of the middle class because they know how unpopular and damaging their proposals are – and the bill is only getting worse.<\/p>\n
The public won’t know what is in the Republican tax bill until it is voted on.<\/strong><\/p>\n New York Times’ Alan Rappeport<\/a>: “Hatch says changes to tax bill probably won’t be public<\/strong> until they are made on the floor.”<\/p>\n Republicans have not held hearings with outside experts and won’t know the full economic impacts of their tax bill before voting on it.<\/strong><\/p>\n Washington Post<\/a>: “They are trying to rush the tax bill through Congress and into law in part to make up for months of failed legislative efforts. Republicans haven’t held any hearings with outside experts<\/strong> to solicit input on the broad impacts of the legislation aside from testimony by Thomas Barthold, chief of staff at the Joint Committee on Taxation.”<\/p>\n Reuters<\/a>: “But the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation is not expected to release a full macroeconomic analysis of the tax bill head of a Senate vote<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n Republicans are desperate to force a bill through without anyone knowing what’s in it, because they know how unpopular it is. <\/strong><\/p>\n Washington Post’s Catherine Rampell<\/a>: “Republicans are of course desperate to notch a legislative win before the year ends, especially given their failed promise to repeal Obamacare. But perhaps more important, Republican lawmakers need to pass this terrible bill before voters — and indeed lawmakers themselves — have a chance to learn what's in it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n CNBC<\/a>: “Yet even under that estimate, the most affluent make out best… Pitted against these realities, and polls showing public resistance, are warnings from GOP leaders and donors<\/strong> that failure on tax cuts guarantees calamity in 2018 elections. On the Senate floor, a half-dozen undecided Republicans have to decide which forces matter most.”<\/p>\n We already know the Republican tax bill favors wealthy corporations and the top 1% over middle-class families, but proposed changes would tilt benefits toward the wealthy even more.<\/strong><\/p>\n New York Times<\/a>: “The Republican tax bill hurtling through Congress is increasingly tilting the United States tax code to benefit wealthy Americans<\/strong>, as party leaders race to shore up wavering lawmakers who are requesting more help for high-earning business owners.”<\/p>\n Washington Post<\/a>: “Last-minute changes to the Senate tax bill could personally benefit President Trump<\/strong>, who has investment stakes in roughly 500 entities that could be affected by the planned adjustments.”<\/p>\n Los republicanos del Senado están tratando de apresurar la votación de su proyecto de reforma tributaria sin darlo a conocer y todo para otorgar recortes de impuestos a los más ricos, a expensas de la clase media. Pero quizás más importante, los legisladores republicanos necesitan pasar este terrible proyecto antes de que los votantes, o inclusive ellos mismos, puedan saber qué dice<\/strong>”.<\/p>\n CNBC<\/a>: “Incluso con ese estimado, los más afluentes son más beneficiados… Enfrentados a estas realidades, y con las encuestas mostrando resistencia pública, hay señales de alerta de líderes republicanos y donantes<\/strong> quienes señalan que fallar en los recortes de impuestos, garantiza una calamidad en las elecciones del 2018. En el Senado, media docena de republicanos indecisos deberán decidir cuál fuerza pesa más”.<\/p>\n Ya sabemos que plan de impuestos republicano favorece a las grandes corporaciones y a quienes ganan más dinero por encima de las familias de clase media, pero los cambios propuestos inclinarían la balanza aún más hacia los millonarios.<\/strong><\/p>\n
