Fox News<\/a>: “The agreement contains about $90 billion<\/strong> in overdue disaster aid, providing relief to hurricane-ravaged Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico, in addition to areas destroyed by wildfires, specifically in California.”<\/p>\n

Is it billions in aid to Puerto Rico?<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Hill<\/a>: “It also has $2 billion<\/strong> to help Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands rebuild their electric grids and $2.4 billion<\/strong> to help citrus growers in Florida and farmers in other areas recover from hurricanes and wildfires. It spends $4.9 billion<\/strong> in Medicaid funds for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, which were hit hard by Hurricane Maria in 2017.”<\/p>\n

The Hill<\/a>: “The bill provides funding to reduce the backlog of more than 400,000 claims<\/strong> at Department of Veterans Affairs health centers.”<\/p>\n

Is it extending the Children’s Health Insurance Program?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fox News<\/a>: “The budget deal also extends the Children's Health Insurance Program<\/strong> (CHIP), a system created in 1997 that provides low-cost health coverage to children in families with incomes too high to qualify for Medicaid, from ages six to 10.”<\/p>\n

Is it funding to fight the opioid and mental health crises?<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Fox News<\/a>: “The deal also takes a large step forward in the national fight against the opioid epidemic — a problem that Trump has been adamant about combatting since he took office. It will dedicate $6 billion<\/strong> toward mental health and the fight against opioid abuse.”<\/p>\n
