From the beginning, Trump has stood in the way of reaching a bipartisan immigration deal to protect American Dreamers. After creating this crisis by rescinding DACA, Trump has derailed multiple bipartisan deals, and instead continues to push his anti-immigrant agenda. The American people want a deal. Democrats and most Republicans want a deal. The only one who doesn’t seem to want a deal is Trump. In fact, after most Republican senators cowed to Trump’s demands and voted against bipartisan solutions, the only thing that hit the 60 vote threshold in the Senate yesterday was opposition to Trump’s anti-immigration bill. It’s clear he is to blame.<\/p>\n

Here are the many times Trump has stood in the way of protecting American Dreamers:<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Feb 15<\/u><\/strong>: The White House rejected a bipartisan immigration introduced by 16 senators.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Associated Press<\/a>: “The Trump administration is denouncing a bipartisan immigration deal in the Senate, saying it will ‘create a mass amnesty for over 10 million illegal aliens, including criminals.’  At issue is a compromise announced Wednesday by 16 senators with centrist views. It seeks to balance Democrats’ fight to offer citizenship to young ‘Dreamer’ immigrants with President Donald Trump’s demands for billions to build a border wall with Mexico.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Feb 5<\/u><\/strong>: The White House rejected the bipartisan McCain-Coons immigration deal as a non-starter.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

CNN<\/a>: “The White House is dismissing an immigration deal brokered by a bipartisan group of lawmakers as a non-starter just hours before it is expected to be formally introduced in the Senate.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jan 19<\/u><\/strong>: Trump backed out of a deal on DACA and the border wall with Schumer that would have averted a government shutdown.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

McClatchy<\/a>: “Trump either backed out of or eschewed two potential deals designed to avert the government shutdown before it began. One was with a bipartisan group of lawmakers and another with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, who said he even accepted a multibillion dollar proposal that would include funding for Trump’s controversial border wall.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jan 17<\/u><\/strong>: After initially being supportive, Trump rejected the bipartisan Graham-Durbin immigration proposal.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Reuters<\/a>: “President Donald Trump on Wednesday aligned himself solidly with conservative Republicans on immigration, criticizing a proposed bipartisan deal as ‘horrible’ on U.S. border security and ‘very, very weak’ on reforms for the legal immigration system.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jan 10<\/u><\/strong>: Trump agreed to, then was talked out of, doing a clean DACA bill.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Politico<\/a>: “‘What about a clean DACA bill now, with a commitment that we go into a comprehensive immigration reform procedure?’ the Democratic lawmaker asked Trump. ‘I have no problem,’ Trump said during the back and forth.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sept 14<\/u><\/strong>: Trump backed out of a deal on DACA and<\/strong> border security deal with Pelosi and Schumer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

New York Times<\/a>: “Democratic leaders on Wednesday night declared that they had a deal with President Trump to quickly extend protections for young undocumented immigrants and to finalize a border security package that does not include the president’s proposed wall…  But on Thursday morning, the president contradicted the Democrats, saying no deal had been struck.”<\/p>\n

Sept 5<\/u><\/strong>: Trump rescinded DACA. <\/strong><\/p>\n
