Trump wants to pay for massive tax breaks for the rich and big corporations by cutting funding dedicated to the  Children’s Health Insurance Program, and through cuts to other programs many middle-class families rely on.<\/p>\n

Trump and Republicans gave massive tax breaks to the wealthy and big corporations, which will add $1.8 trillion to the deficit over the next decade.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Associated Press<\/a>: “The administration had promised the cuts would pay for themselves. Instead, Monday’s report estimates that the GOP tax bill, which is Republican-controlled Washington’s signature accomplishment under Trump, will add $1.8 trillion to the deficit over the coming decade<\/strong>, even after its positive effects on the economy are factored in.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now, Trump wants to offset a portion of the Trump tax by eliminating funding dedicated to health care and nutrition programs for children, student grants, Medicare and Medicaid programs, and more.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Politico<\/a>: “Nearly half of the package, a whopping $7 billion, pulls from the Children’s Health Insurance Program<\/strong>, which covers about 9 million low-income children.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Politico<\/a>: “It would also cut $800 million from the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation<\/strong>, which was created under Obamacare.”<\/p>\n

Reuters<\/a>: “Most reductions were aimed at non-defense spending, including nearly $1.5 billion in child nutrition programs<\/strong>, $700 million in student grants<\/strong> and $2.2 billion in international disaster aid<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

Trump planned to request further funding cuts to vital programs for working families that Democrats secured in the 2018 omnibus bill, including for opioid treatment and election security.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bloomberg<\/a>: “Mulvaney told lawmakers that the White House will send a separate request later in the year to cancel some funds from the $1.3 trillion 2018 omnibus spending bill<\/strong>, an idea that has met resistance from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.<\/p>\n
