While hundreds of children remain separated from their families, Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda has led to a record number of immigrant children being detained. Here’s the latest:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Detentions of immigrant children have reached the highest level ever recorded due to a reduction in the number of children released to families or sponsors.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

New York Times<\/a><\/span>: “Population levels at federally contracted shelters for migrant children have quietly shot up more than fivefold since last summer, according to data obtained by The New York Times, reaching a total of 12,800 this month.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Trump administration is more than tripling the size of a tent camp to accommodate even more immigrant children.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Washington Post<\/a><\/span>: “A tent camp for migrant children in the desert outside El Paso will expand to accommodate a growing number of Central American children crossing the border, the Department of Health and Human Services said Tuesday. HHS, the federal agency tasked with caring for migrant children and teenagers in U.S. custody, said it would more than triple the size of its camp at the Tornillo-Guadalupe Land Port of Entry from 1,200 beds to as many as 3,800.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Trump administration redirected $200 million in funds from other DHS programs, including FEMA and the Coast Guard, to detention and deportation efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

CNN<\/a><\/span>: “As a potentially catastrophic hurricane bears down on the East Coast of the US, the shifting of $10 million from FEMA's operating budget to fund immigration detention and deportations is drawing condemnation from Democrats. But that's a drop in the bucket. The Trump administration this summer quietly redirected $200 million from all over the Department of Homeland Security to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, despite repeated congressional warnings of ICE's ‘lack of fiscal discipline’ and ‘unsustainable’ spending.”<\/p>\n
